Soto Earns 1st in Mile High Barber Battle
Congratulations to Alfredo Soto, a student at Cheeks International Academy in Greeley, for taking first place in the 5280 Custom Kuts competition as part of the Mile High Showdown Barber Battle. The competition tests barbers’ skills in speed and neatness within a variety of different hair styles. Alfredo’s award winning work was completed within four minutes and 26 seconds.

Highest Average Agent Production Award
Sears Real Estate received a member achievement award from Leading Real Estate Companies of the World, a global network of more than 500 real estate firms. They were presented the Highest Average Agent Production Award which recognizes sales productivity.

Leprino Foods is one of 12 top energy-saving companies honored by Excel Energy. Leprino won the award for their Greeley facility which had the highest energy savings by a single location, with 5.4 million kilowatt hours saved.

JBS Carriers has won the Smart Way Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its industry leadership in freight supply chain environmental performance and energy efficiency. This is the second straight year JBS Carriers has won the award.


Wiley Roots Takes Bronze Award

Wiley Roots Brewing Company in Greeley took home a bronze medal for its Supper 77 Wheat American style beer at the Great American Beer Festival. Owners, Kyle and Miranda Carbaugh, are one of only two Weld County brewing companies that took home medals this year.  Wiley was among 230 first-time entrants in the 27 year old competition.


CPA Awards Greeley Tribune

The Colorado Press Association has given the Greeley Tribune eleven first place awards and twelve second place awards in the 2012 CPA Better Newspaper Contest. The first place awards included Best Agriculture Story, Best Advertising Campaign, Best Education Story, Best Photography portfolio, Best Sports Event Story, Best Feature, and Best Sports Photograph.


Best Northern Colorado Restaurant

Congratulations to the Greeley Chophouse for being recognized by urbanspoon as one of the "Best Northern Colorado Restaurants" for 2013.


Colorado AP Broadcasters Honored

The Colorado Associated Press recognized the KUNC Newsroom in Greeley with 11 awards for excellence, including first place for Outstanding News Operation for coverage of the High Park wildfire; Grace Hood for Best Investigative Reporting; and Nathan Heffel for Best General Reporting and Best Use of Sound.


Currier Inn Wins TripAdvisor Awards

The Currier Inn, formerly The Sod Buster, has received its third TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award.  The award honors hospitality excellence and is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews.  Congratulations to Derek and Stephanie who are also featured in the Greeley Unexpected image campaign.


KUNC REceives Society of Professional Journalists Top Awards

Congratulations to KUNC radio.  In a competition among 700 entries from four states, the staff at KUNC has won first place awards for website excellence and best multimedia story in the Society for Professional Journalists' Top of the Rockies competition.


Colorado Running Hall of Fame

Local business owner and accomlished runner Doug Bell has been inducted into the Colorado Running Hall of Fame.  Doug easily qualified for this honor due to his incredible accomplishments. For example, he won the Denver Marathon in 1980, '82 and '86 and was named the 1991 USA Track and Field 40-44 Age Division Runner of the Year.  He also set the American Master records for his age group in the 5K and 25K in 1992; set the American Indoor mile record for his age group at age 55; and was the 2011 USA Track & Field Cross Contry Masters 60-64 division winner, leading his Masters' team to the championship.


JBS Named Green Fleet of the Year

Fleet Owner magazine and WIX Filters have named Greeley-based JBS Carriers as the 2013 Green Fleet of the Year.  Among its 760 trucks, the company cut fuel consumption by 16% through a series of technological advances and relatively simple fixes.  Among the improvements was the addition of "side skirts" and "trailer tails" to decrease wind resistance.


KUNC Wins Edward R. Murrow Awards

The KUNC newsroom staff has been honored with five Edward R. Murrow regional awards for excellence by the Radio Television Digital News Association. KUNC is now eligible for the national awards competition in June.

Connecting Point of Greeley has been named to CRN's annual Tech Elite 250 list.  Companies on the Elite 250 list represent IT service providers across North America who have invested in the training and education needed to earn the most advanced technical certifications.


Colorado Broadcasters Association Awards for KFKA and KUNC

The KUNC Newsroom was recognized with two Major Market awards for 2012 by the Colorado Broadcasters Association.  They won Best Station Website, and report Nathan Heffel earned 1st place in the Best New Feature category.  1301 KFKA also took home CBA awards, including Best Regularly Scheduled Newscast by Troy Coverdale and Best News/Talk Show with Tom Lucero and Devon Lentz.


Bravo! Entrepreneur Awards

Lee and Waren Yoder of Weld County Garage won the Greeley Entrepreneur Award at the 14th annual Bravo! Awards.  This year's event was held at the Union Colony Civic Center.


Credit Union Manager of the Year

Security Service Federal Credit Union branch manager Hunter Doyle has been honored as Mountain Region Manager of the Year.  The Greeley branch is consistently among the top branches in the Mountain Region and a top performer nationally for their outbound calling program.

JBS Carriers Win Green Award

JBS Carriers of Greeley is one of four carriers recognized by the Regional Air Quality Council and Colorado Motor Carriers Association with a Green Fleet Award.  The EPS's SmartWay program has recognized them for their contributions and efforts toward reducing emissions and energy use.


Spradley Barr Ford Awarded Bid for State Fleet

Spradley Barr Ford in Greeley has been awarded a bid to provide functional and affordable compressed natural gas sedans, pickups, and vans to state fleets.  More than 100 bids were submitted by dealerships in 28 states representing Ford, Chrysler, General Motors and Honda.


Colorado Optometrist of the Year

Local eye doctor Jacquie Bowen has been named Colorado's Optometrist of the Year for 2012 by her peers within the Colorado Optometric Association.  The award is given for community involvement, volunteerism and contributions to the profession.  Jacquie is an advisor to the Greeley Recreation Department regarding eye protection and safety.


Peace Pit State BBQ Champs

Congratulations to Peace Pit BBQ in Greeley for taking home the grand champion prize at a statewide barbecue competition in Craig, Colorado.  Owner Mark Shook took the overall prize, even beating out TV chef and two-time world champion Johnny Trigg.  The Peace Pit team improved over last year's reserve champion finish.

National Honor for Environmental Practices

Northern Colorado Paper of Greeley has earned Cascade Paper's Environmental Distributor Achievement Award.  The award recognized the company for their dedication to providing paper products made from 100 percent recycled fiber - helping to conserve over 255,000 trees nationwide.


Music Academy given Exemplary Program Award

Union Colony Children's Academy has been awarded the 2012 Musikgarten Exemplary Program Award.  Union Colony's program is one of 85 in North America to receive the award.  Musikgarten is a leader in childhood music and movement education.


Leading Real Estate Companies of the World Awards

Sears Real Estate in Greeley is the recipient of three Leading Real Estate Companies of the World Member Achievement Awards: the Crown of Excellence; Award of Excellence for Outgoing Referral Production; and the Peak Producers Award.


2012 Brewers Association World Beer Cup

Brewers from around the world received awards from an elite international panel of judges in the 2012 Brewers Association World Beer Cup. 799 breweries from 54 countries and 45 U.S. states entered a total of 3,921 beers in 95 beer style categories.  Winners included Greeley's Crabtree Brewing Company which took silver in the Specialty Honey Beer category against 22 other entries.

IT Hall of Fame Inductee

President and owner of Connecting Point Greeley, Ted Warner, has been inducted into the IT Hall of Fame.  The Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions or provided outstanding service.  Ted was honored for founding the first industry peer group in 1992, which was developed into a nationwide network.  He is the only inductee from Colorado.


Sales and Service Award to Ghent

Way to go Ghent Chevrolet-Cadillac in Greeley!  It was just announced that the owners and staff have been awarded Chevrolet's 2011 Mark of Excellence for selling 333 new cars in 2011 and for their excellent customer service ratings.


CBA Awards Given to Local Radio Stations

Colorado Broadcasters Association 2011 Awards of Excellence were handed out last month.  Winners included Troy Coverdale of KFKA for "Best Regularly Scheduled Newscast" and KUNC was awarded for "Best Single Event News Coverage" for the proposed post office closures.  The Awards of Excellence recognize individual and station excellence within the Colorado Broadcast industry and honor broadcasters' service to their communities.


McDonald's Recognizes JBS Sustainability

JBS USA was recently recognized as the winner of the McDonald's 2012 "Best of Sustainable Supply" award.  McDonald's recognized JBS for two sustainability projects that resulted in improvements in water conservation and waste reduction.

Bravo! Awards Honor Greeley Businesses and Resident

The Northern Colorado Business Report's Bravo! Entrepreneur Awards celebrated the spirit of entrepreneurship and business excellence on March 8.  The 2012 event was held at the Union Colony Civic Center and paired with the Monfort College of Business E-Challenge Awards.  Winners included Greeley Entrepreneurs Bruce White and Dale Butcher, founders and owners of Conquest Oil as well as Norm Dean, formerly of United Banks of Colorado, who earned the Lifetime Achievement award.

State Farm Supports Local Academics

State Farm Insurance Companies presented a $100,000 check to the University of Northern Colorado to aid in student success across campus.  The gift will provide academic scholarships including some for bilingual students, resources for campus cultural centers, support for a Monfort College of Business faculty fellowship, and funding for web-based financial aid tools.  State Farm has donated more than $1 million to UNC over the last 13 years.


Local Business Takes First Place

Greeley Monument Works received 1st Place in the category of Public and Civic Monuments in the American Institute of Commemorative Art's 2010 Design contest.  They earned the award for the Poudre River Trail markers they designed and built.


Center Director Receives President's Award

Life Care Center of Greeley executive director Dan Gauger has received the Life Care Centers of America Mountain States Division President's Award for his distinguished service in long-term health care management.


Local Brewery Brings Home Awards

Northern Colorado brewers brought back awards from the Great American Beer Festival in Denver including Greeley's own Crabtree Brewery.  The festival is the largest commercial beer competition in the world, with 3,930 beers vying for medals from 167 beer judges from nine countries.  Competing against 13 other entries in the German Style Ale category, Crab Tree Brewing won gold with their Berliner Weisse, and competing against 36 entries they won silver with their Oatmeal Stout.


Weld Women Honored as Women of Distinction

The 2011 Northern Colorado Business Report Women of Distinction is the premier Northern Colorado celebration recognizing female leadership in Northern Colorado.  Whether business professionals or community leaders, philanthropists or educators, these women choose to devote their time and considerable talents in ways that strengthen not only their organization's interests but the entire community.  Eleven women were honored including Greeley's Jean Shober Morrell from the University of Northern Colorado, for Outstanding Mentor and Leona Martens from the Weld Food Bank, for Non-Profit Human Services.


Business Owners Flex Some Muscle and Win

Congratulations to Greeley business owners Kim McMurren and Rodney Garcia.  Both came away victors in the 2011 Colorado State Bodybuilding Championships.  Rodney was named the Men's Masters Overall Co-State Champion and Kim took first in the Women's Masters Division.  Kim and Rodney own Max Muscle in Greeley.


Colorado Press Association Awards Tribune

The Greeley Tribune staff took home 27 awards at the 2010 Colorado Press Association newspaper contest, including the general excellence award in its circulation category.  The Tribune also won the sweepstakes award in Editorial and Photo & Design categories.


KUNC Recognized for Newscast Efforts

The Colorado Associated Press Broadcaster's Association recognized the KUNC newsroom with six awards in the large/medium market category.  Five staffers received top honors for Best Newscast.  Grace Hood received 1st place for Investigative Reporting and 2nd in the General Reporting category.  Grace and fellow reporter Kirk Siegler took first and second in Use of Sound and Kirk also took first place in the Best Feature category.  Grace received the national Edward R. Murrow Award for excellence in broadcast journalism for a second year in a row.


KFKA Brings Home Colorado Broadcasters Awards 

Greeley's 1310 KFKA radio brought home three awards in the major market division at the 2011 Colorado Broadcasters Association's annual awards.  Troy Coverdale and his news team received a certificate of merit for Best Single Event News Coverage.  Amy Oliver and Scooter McGee took first and second in Best News/Talk Personality.  KFKA is Colorado's first radio station, having signed on the air in 1921, and is celebrating 90 years of broadcasting in 2011.


HP Named Contractor of the Year

Kudos to Hensel Phelps Construction Company of Greeley for being named the 2010 Contractor of the Year by the Associated Builders and Contractors.


KUNC Radio Wins Four CBA Awards

Greeley's KUNC-FM has won four awards in the major market division at the Colorado Broadcasters Association's annual awards.  News staff took 2nd place for best newscast; first and second place in the Best news feature or series category; and first place for Best Single Event news coverage.


Local Tow Company Wins Award

Shiloh Thomas of Another Towing Co. Inc. of Greeley has received the American Towman Ace Award for achievement in service performance.  Ace Award recipients rank in the top 1 percent of the towing industry's service providers.


Roche Constructors Inc. of Greeley has received an Excellence in Construction Award from the Rocky Mountain Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors for their work on the Vestas Blades Colorado paint facilities in Windsor.


Thomas Gibson, a financial specialist with U.S. Bank in Greeley, has won the president's award with U.S. Bancorp Investments and Insurance, the parent company of U.S. Bank  Gibson was among a select number of top-performing employees nationwide.


Connecting Point of Greeley has been named among the top 40 Most Innovative Managed Service Providers in North America by Everything Channel's CRN Magazine.  The list recognizes the IT industry's top 40 managed service providers for their ingenuity, leadership and success.  Connecting Point was noted for introducing their PointCare suite of services to a wide variety of clients in Northern Colorado.

State Farm Insurance Living Healthy

State Farm Insurance has been recognized as a healthy workplace by the National Business Group on Health.  State Farm was among 66 employers that received the 2010 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award.  The award was given by the National Business Group on Health's Institute on Innovation in Workforce Well-being.


Greeley Agent Earns Allstate Community Award

Congratulations to Sue Helfrich, an Allstate agent in Greeley.  Sue has earned the Agency Hands in the Community Award for her involvement and commitment to teen drivers' safety in Weld County including the DRIVE SMART Weld County Coalition and the Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth program (P.A.R.T.Y.).


Adler Named Insurance Professional

Michelle Adler of Greeley has been named the Insurance Professional of the Year for 2009-2010.  She was honored at the Annual Region VII Conference of the National Association of Insurance Women International.  Michelle will now compete for the national honor to be awarded in June.  She works for State Farm Insurance.


Tribune Earns Awards

The Greeley Tribune netted 15 awards, including six first place awards, at the Colorado Associated Press Editorial and Reporters Association annual awards ceremony.  The Tribune competes in Division I, which encompasses all newspapers in Colorado with a circulation of less than 30,000.  The Tribune also won the Colorado Press Association's General Excellence Award.





NCMC Bariatric Center Excellence Designation

North Colorado Medical Center has been renewed as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Surgical Review Corporation.


Woman of Influence

Chalice Springfield of Sears Real Estate in Greeley has been named a Northern Colorado Woman of Influence by the Northern Colorado Business Report for her commitment to the community.


Health Professions Award Given

Mitzi Moran, chief operating officer of Sunrise Community Health will receive the 2009 Health Professions Education and Training Award given by the National Association of Community Health Centers.  She was recognized for her role in developing sustainable education centers focusing on the training of family physicians.


NCMC Nurse Wins National Award

Ginger Maki, HeartCaring Coordinator at North Colorado Medical Center, whose case study "Collaboration and Promotion: Keys to Achieving HeartCaring Goals" won the Case Study of the Year at the national HeartCaring Conference.


National Renewable Energy Laboratory Selection

Congratulations to Bruce Biggi, Economic Development Manager for the City of Greeley.  Bruce is one of 33 community leaders selected to participate in the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory 2009 Executive Energy Leadership program.  It is the state's premier leadership program focused on educating business and government leaders about clean energy solutions that can boost the local economy.


Bonell Good Samaritan Receives Quality Award

Good Samaritan Society Bonell Community has received a Quality First Award with the endorsement of the Colorado Association of Homes and Services for the Aging.  The Greeley facility was recognized for its outpatient clinic program that partners with community medical providers.


Small Business Well Workplace Designation Given

The Weld Schools Credit Union has received the first Small Business Well Workplace designation in Weld County.  The recognition is given by the Wellness Council of America.


Colorado Broadcasters Awards Given to Local Radio Stations

Congratulations to local radio stations KUNC and KFKA who both received multiple awards at the Colorado Broadcasters Association Award of Excellence Gala.  KUNC also won two Edward R. Murrow Awards for excellence in electronic journalism from the Radio and Television News Directors Association for their coverage of the May 2008 tornado and efforts to register Latino voters prior to the November election.


Ehrich Toyota Wins President's Award...Again!

Ehrlich Toyota has won Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc's President's Award for outstanding sales and service for the third time.  The award recognizes dealerships across the U.S. that achieve high standards of performance from vehicle and parts sales to customer service.


Kudos to State Farm and Aims Community College

State Farm has donated $20,000 to help fund The College Promise program at Aims Community College.  The College Promise program was started in 2008 by local business leaders to financially support students who choose to attend Aims.  The number of students who benefit from College Promise depends on funds raised annually as it is not an endowed fund.


State Farm Earns Well Workplace Designation

State Farm Insurance in Greeley has earned a Silver Well Workplace designation from the Wellness Councils of America.  Others to receive the honor include NCMC, New Frontier Bank and the Greeley city government.


Local Hotel Earns Award for Quality

For two years running, Days Inn in Greeley has won the Chairman's Award for Quality and has been ranked No. 1 of the 1,850 Days Inns worldwide.  The award recognizes hotels that consistently meet and exceed quality assurance standards.


Greeley Hat Works Featured in Magazine

Greeley Hat Works has been featured in American Cowboy Magazine as an industry leader.  The company is approaching its 100th anniversary.  In that time they have built hats for two U.S. Presidents, representatives for the U.S. State Department, nationally known entertainers, Fortune 500 CEOs and some darn fine cowboys.

Ehrlich Receives Toyota President's Award

Scott Ehrlich has received the Toyota President's Award for the second consecutive year.  Scott has received recognition for his key role in establishing the College Promise Program which provides financial assistance to local students so they can continue their education beyond high school.  Scott was recognized in the September 1 edition of Time Magazine.


Greeley's Management Program Awarded Governor's Award

The Colorado Community Revitalization Association has recognized Greeley as an exceptional downtown management program by awarding them the 2008 Governor's Award for Downtown Excellence.  The annual award program recognizes the progress being made in revitalizing Colorado's historic downtown and neighborhood business districts and the contributions these districts are making to Colorado's quality of life and economy.  An award ceremony was held at the CCRA's annual conference on September 18.


UNC/Texas Roadhouse Announces Scholarship Winner

Betony Coons was awarded the UNC/Texas Raodhouse Scholarship.  The scholarship contest is available for Visual Art students of UNC and involves the painting of a mural that shows something about the community.  This year's theme was Greeley: Great. From the Ground Up.  Betony received a $1,000 scholarship.  Her mural is located on the outside west wall of the Texas Roadhouse.




Coveted Magnet Designation Given to NCMC
North Colorado Medical Center has earned the "Magnet" designation, joining fewer than 250 hospitals nationwide recognized for superior nursing care. The American Nurses' Credentialing Center awards the status after evaluating a hospital based on patient outcomes, nurse job satisfaction and turnover rate.

1310 KFKA Radio Considered One of the Best
One of Greeley’s local radio stations,1310 KFKA Newstalk, walked away with two first place awards from the Colorado Broadcasters Association. First place awards were given for Best Website in a major market and Best Newstalk personality (Luke Shilts) in a major market.

Greeley Tribune Receives Press Association Awards
Greeley Tribune received 14 awards, including five first-place honors, from the Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters Association for newspapers with a circulation between 10,000 and 100,000. Also, for the 2nd straight year, the Tribune won enough awards at the Colorado Press Association’s annual awards banquet to take home the “sweepstakes award for general excellence” and the sweepstakes awards in advertising, editorial and photography and design. La Tribuna won nine awards.

The Tribune Receives Honors

The National Newspaper Association honored The Tribune for producing the best local news coverage in the nation at its annual convention.  The Tribune placed second in the nation in the daily circulation division.  In addition, the Tribune claimed first-place awards for individual entries in the 2007 National Newspaper Association's Better Newspaper Contest.


KUNC Brings Home Broadcasters' Awards
The Colorado Broadcasters Association has recognized KUNC's Brian Larson and Nancy Greenleese based on their news reporting in 2006. Larson was awarded a first place in the Best single Event News category. Greenleese dominated the Best Feature Reporting category.


ColoradoBIZ Ranks State's Top 250 Private Companies
ColoradoBIZ magazine presented its ranking of the state's Top 250 Private Companies. The 2006 listing included: Swift & Co. (1); Hensel Phelps Construction Co. (6); Roche Constructors Inc. (20); Agland Inc. (24) and New Frontier Bank (52).
Union Colony Bank Listed as Best Company to Work
Greeley's Union Colony Bank was announced as one of the best companies to work for in Colorado. The statewide contest, given by The Society for Human Resource Management Colorado Council, ranked Union Colony Bank 8th in medium sized companies. They were the only Northern Colorado business to make the list. Union Colony Bank was also listed on Colorado Parent Magazine's list of the top 5 companies in the state for the last several years.

Special Recognition:  Potato Brumbaugh's History to Remain at UNC Library
After 25 years of operation, the restaurant announced its closing. This unique local history theme using a character from James Michener's novel "Centennial" was a piece of community pride. Two items from the restaurant lobby, a letter from James Michener and the stained glass window featuring Potato Brubaugh, will go to the UNC Michener Library. A second stained glass window was donated to the City of Greeley Museums and will hang in the atrium of the Greeley History Museum.

Global Insights Ranks Greeley High
As seen in the Northern Colorado Business Report, Global Insights Ranking listed the Greeley metro area as #11 in annual economic growth between 1994 and 2004. The average annual growth during that time was 7.7 percent. Fort Collins/Loveland area came in at #20 with a 7.3 percent growth.
KUNC Wins Associated Press of Colorado Awards
KUNC won five Associated Press of Colorado Awards for coverage in 2005. Nancy Greeleese, reporter, won first place in general reporting and best feature category. She also was second place for use of sound in her story about the new school cup stacking sports. Brian Larson, reporter, won second place in general reporting. Greenleese, Larson and Jim Beers, news director, won second place in the best newscast category for the 6 a.m. "Morning Edition" show.
