Invitation from Greeley Mayor Tom Norton and City Council members

Council Seeks Public Input on Priorities at Speak Up Session

On January 26th, the Greeley City Council will host a Speak Up session to gather public input on the Council’s draft 2010 City Priorities list.  This informal comment session is our opportunity to hear resident's thoughts about these priorities.  Please join us on Tuesday, January 26th at Monfort Elementary School (2101 47th Avenue) from 6-7:00 p.m.

A community needs direction to maintain and improve its quality of life.  We would like resident input on that direction so we can finalize our priorities which will ultimately translate into action from City government.  This list is truly just a draft until we hear from residents.

Here are the draft priorities for your consideration prior to the meeting:

Council Priority: Engaging the Community – To engage residents in the public process thereby assisting the City Council and City staff to successfully address the challenges faced by the community while recognizing the value of residents’ unique backgrounds and their wide variety of perspectives and skills.

Council Priority:  Public Safety – To maintain recent improvements in community safety by engaging residents, businesses, the police and fire departments and other relevant personnel and/or agencies to anticipate and resolve threats to public safety.

Council Priority: Infrastructure – To maintain and construct Greeley’s public infrastructure, while concentrating on proper maintenance and supporting investment in private property, with a goal of promoting a healthy local economy and high quality of life.

Council Priority: Greeley is Open for Business – To improve the community’s financial well being by creating an environment that fosters quality job growth, recognizes Greeley’s position in a competitive regional economy and encourages private and public sector investments and partnerships.

Council Priority:  Support K-12 Education – As a key to Economic Development, support K-12 education through cooperation with Greeley, Evans and regional school boards.

With your help at the meeting on the 26th we’ll finalize the priorities as well as City Manager Roy Otto’s work program which will support Council’s priorities.  Please stop by Monfort Elementary School and share your comments with us at the microphone or in writing on a comment card.  We’re interested in hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Thomas E. Norton, Greeley Mayor
