Centennial Village Museum opens its gates for the 2013 season
This Memorial Day weekend, Centennial Village opens its new gates for another year of exciting historical encounters. Gates will be open from 10 am – 4 pm, Saturday, May 25 – Monday, May 27.
The whole family will have an opportunity to explore all of the new and exciting additions to the living history programming. Visitors can meet the resident animals, watch the Buffalo Soldiers practice drill, help our blacksmith create tools and try their hand at the popular pioneer hobby of hatchet throwing.
Visitors are encouraged to tour all the 30+ buildings and the 8-acre grounds or pack a lunch for an outdoor picnic. All buildings will be open, and some houses will have volunteer docents to talk about the history of the house. The doors to Rattlesnake Kate’s house will be open with many new additions including live reptiles and interactive virtual games.
Centennial Village is at 14th Ave. and A St., just south of Island Grove Regional Park. Standard visiting hours are 10 am-4 pm, Wednesday-Saturday and 12 pm – 4 pm on Sunday through September. Admission is $6 for ages 18-59; $4 for ages 60+; $3 for ages 3-17.
