The Greeley Ice Haus, part of the City of Greeley’s Culture, Parks and Recreation Department, closed on June 26 to begin the daunting task of resurfacing the ice rink. The process in which they create an ice rink is quite fascinating and time consuming, but an incredible procedure that requires meticulous detail and concentration. Read the GreeleyRec Blog to find out more at The Ice Haus will remain closed until Friday, July 5 to complete the job. In-ice logos will be hand painted by staff; sponsor logos, such as Credit Union of Colorado, will be applied using stencils at center ice and throughout the ice rink surface.
The Timeline for the ice re-building process begins with cutting the current ice surface with the Zamboni, which began on Tuesday evening, June 25.  This process continued until Thursday morning, staff worked day and night until they were close to the concrete floor. From that point staff lets the ice melt and uses shop-vacs to clean up the water and paint. By Friday everything should be melted and cleaned up. They then put down a thin layer of ice and paint the whole floor white, then add another layer of ice and paint all of the logos and lines. The project should be finished by Saturday or Sunday. From that point on they work around the clock misting the ice to build the thickness to about one-inch. These are general timelines depending on how fast or slow progress is made.
The Ice Haus will re-open on Saturday, July 6 with the “Break the Ice” event from 12-1:30pm. They boast some of the best family fun at affordable prices in Northern Colorado. Attend one of their extended public skate sessions this summer through August 16. Public Skates are Monday-Friday from 12-2:45pm and Saturday & Sunday 12-1:30pm.
