Subject: Parents of Abandoned Infant Located, Safe, Father Arrested
On July 29, 2013, at approximately 11:00 p.m. the Greeley Police Department sent a press release asking for assistance in locating the parents of an infant abandoned in the 1900 block of 12th Avenue. Based on initial statements obtained from witnesses there was concern for the well-being of all involved parties. During the ongoing investigation, the mother and father were identified and found to be in good health. The child was examined at the hospital and later released to his mother.
The father, Alvin Padilla, 051773, was subsequently arrested and charged with Child Abuse, Harassment and Violation of a Restraining Order. The last two charges were domestic violence related. The investigation revealed Padilla confronted the mother, Audriana Lopez-Barnhart 092890, in the 200 block of 23rd Avenue at approximately 7:00 p.m. regarding custody of their son. An argument ensued during which Padilla struck the mother, took the child, and left in his vehicle. Lopez-Barnhart followed Padilla until he eventually parked the car in central Greeley, removed the child and fled the area on foot. Lopez-Barnhart was unable to keep up with him and returned to her home.
Padilla then left the child with a woman he’d never met or seen before, telling her the police were after him. Later last evening, as officers were in the neighborhood investigating, Padilla returned to the home to retrieve the child. He was cooperative in the investigation, and was subsequently arrested at the police department.
