Subject: Greeley Police Obtain Arrest Warrants in 2012 Homicide Case
Today, July 31, 2013, Greeley Police Gang Unit Investigators obtained arrest warrants for Joseph Robert Bernal, 070687, Corey Louie Moreno, 061491, and Jose Manuel Velasquez, 111185, for charges stemming from a drive by shooting which occurred mid-summer 2012.
On Sunday, July 1st, 2012 at about 5:00 pm, 20 year old Fabian Flores was riding in a black Chrysler 300 with three of his friends when they were confronted by rival gang members in a light colored car. The rival gang members pulled alongside Flores and his friends and fired multiple gunshots into the car, striking Flores. Flores was taken to the hospital but died the following day. Police have been following leads, speaking to witnesses and evaluating evidence since that time, ultimately identifying and obtaining warrants for these individuals.
Both Bernal and Moreno are facing charges of murder in the first degree – after deliberation, murder in the first degree- extreme indifference, three counts of criminal attempt at murder the first degree – after deliberation, and 3 counts of criminal attempt at murder in the first degree – extreme indifference. Velasquez is facing one count of accessory to murder in the first degree.
All of these individuals are currently incarcerated on other, unrelated charges. Both Moreno and Bernal are currently in the Weld County Jail, while Velasquez is in the Department of Corrections.
