Subject: FIRST FUNPLEX KIDS TRIATHLON BRINGS COMMUNITY TOGETHER

The first Greeley Kids Triathlon held at the Family FunPlex earlier this month, on Saturday, August 10th, brought together many young athletes as well as adult volunteers. The City of Greeley’s Culture, Parks, and Recreation Department partnered with Cindy Dallow on the event, a local triathlete. The event had volunteers from Banner Health, local runners, bikers and swimmers all keeping time during each heat and helping kids work through the transitions.

“There were 65 kids that participated in the event” stated organizer Cindy Dallow, “that was a good turnout.” There were 7 children registered for the 5 and under category – they did a modified Tri with a 25-yard assisted swim, 100-yard bike and 50-yard run. The largest group was the 6-8 age range – with 27 participants that competed in a 50-yard swim, 2-mile bike ride and 3/4-mile run. The next largest group was the 9-10 year olds with 20 youth that did the 100-yard swim, 3-mile bike and 1-mile run. There were also 11 kids that were 11-12 years old and they participated in a 200-yard swim, 3-mile bike and 1-mile run. “Each participant received a medal at the finish line and we had every person that registered finish. It was a great time had by all. Thanks to the awesome planning committee and all the volunteers that came out to help from Banner Health, Northern Colorado Family Medicine, the Culture, Parks, and Recreation Department, local athletes and family members. We hope the event will grow and more kids participate next year.”

Cindy Dallow plans on running a conditioning class next summer at the Family FunPlex to help kids interested in doing triathlons get in shape for these types of events. Triathlons help build interest in sports that people can participate in all their life and encourage a healthy lifestyle. For more information contact the Family FunPlex at 970.350.9401 or Cindy Dallow at 970.518.7469, by email at cindydallow@gmail.com or find them on Facebook at Greeley Kids Triathlon.
