Subject: Suspect Arrested in Recent Domestic Violence Stabbing
Yesterday, September 9, 2013, police arrested Jimmy Manzanares, 021970, in south Greeley on outstanding warrants related to two recent attacks on his wife/girlfriend, Ruby Ramirez, 040775. Manzanares is currently in custody at the Weld County Jail facing numerous domestic violence related charges, including attempted murder and first and second degree assault, among others.
On September 3, 2013, at approximately 11:45 a.m., Manzanares confronted Ramirez in a park as Ramirez was watching a friend’s child on the playground. Manzanares threatened and then assaulted Ramirez with a utility knife or box cutter, causing minor injuries. At the time of this assault there was a protection order in place ordering Manzanares not to have contact with Ramirez. Manzanares fled prior to police arrival. Police attempted to locate Manzanares, and being unable to do so, requested a warrant for his arrest for second degree assault, menacing and violation of a protection order, all domestic violence related.
On September 7, 2013, at approximately 3:00 p.m. officers responded to a reported stabbing in the 3100 block of 17th Avenue in Greeley. Officers located the female victim, Ramirez, who had received numerous stab wounds. The suspect was believed to be her boyfriend/spouse Jimmy Manzanares, who, again, had fled the scene prior to police arrival. Investigation into this incident revealed Manzanares had been following Ramirez since the previous event, arriving at the apartment on several occasions, yelling and threatening to kill Ramirez. Just before the stabbing, Ramirez and a friend were leaving the apartment when Manzanares appeared from behind the building, confronted Ramirez, and eventually stabbed her with a kitchen knife. Ramirez was transported to North Colorado Medical Center with serious injuries. Efforts to locate Manzanares were unsuccessful and a warrant was again requested and obtained, this time for charges of attempted first degree murder, first degree assault, stalking and violation of a protection order, all domestic violence related. All officers were advised of these pending charges and were all actively looking for Manzanares.
On September 9, 2013, at approximately 12:18 p.m., Manzanares was spotted at a restaurant in south Greeley by an off-duty Greeley police officer. Additional officers arrived and Manzanares was arrested without incident. He is being held at the Weld County Jail on charges stemming from both incidents. Ramirez has been released from the hospital and is expected to recover.
