Subject: 101st U.S. Army Band performs Free Veterans Day Concert on Sunday

The 101st US Army Band, based at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, Colorado, returns to Greeley on Sunday, November 10 at 2 p.m. for a concert of patriotic music in honor of veterans and those currently serving in the Armed Forces at the Union Colony Civic Center.
The 101st Army Band was organized and federally recognized in 1937 in the Colorado National Guard as the Band Section of Service Battery of the 168th Field Artillery in Denver. Still a unit of the Colorado Army National Guard, the Band is now in its 73rd year, and consists of 50 citizen-soldiers whose occupations range from student to teacher and computer programmer to waiter. The Band members attend from as far away as Montrose and Greeley to train intensively every month in Aurora. Colorado’s only Army band, the 101st features a variety of patriotic, jazz, popular, country, classical, rock, and Dixieland music, performed by seven different ensembles.
“This is the second appearance of the Army Band at the Union Colony Civic Center, and we couldn’t be happier to have them back,” said Jason Evenson, Interim UCCC Director. “They are real crowd-pleasers, and there are many people with local connections among the band members.”

The Greeley Chorale will be special guests of the band, performing several numbers with them, including a salute to the branches of the service -- Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine. “We are honored and pleased to be asked to perform once again with the 101st Band,” said Greeley Chorale Artistic Director Dr. Galen Darrough. “These are great musicians, and are even more impressive when you realize they only do this part-time, and serve in the Colorado Army National Guard and maintain jobs and families in their home communities, too!”

Tickets for this event are free, and can be obtained at the Union Colony Civic Center Ticket Office, 701 10th Avenue in Downtown Greeley. There is no online availability for these tickets, and there is a limit of 4 tickets per person on a first come, first serve basis. This event has reserved seating. For further information, contact the ticket office at 970-356-5000 or 1-800-315-ARTS. The UCCC’s 25th Anniversary is the season to Come See The Stars!
