Subject:  Councilmember Shaddock to Become U.S Senator Mark Udall’s Regional Representative

Greeley City Councilmember Pam Shaddock has tendered her resignation from her City Council Ward IV seat to become U.S. Senator Mark Udall’s Northeastern Colorado Regional Representative.  Ms. Shaddock submitted a letter to the other councilmembers on Tuesday evening, April 21 outlining her decision. Her resignation will become effective on April 24.  (Letter attached)

Ms. Shaddock was elected to her first term on Council in November of 2003 as an At-large Councilmember.  She was re-elected in November, 2007 to her current Ward IV Council position.

Her departure from the council will require that applicants be interviewed and a person be appointed by council to fill Ms. Shaddock’s seat.  This is in accordance with Greeley’s Charter, which in Section 2-5, provides that the Council appoint an eligible person to fill a vacancy until the next general municipal election at which time the vacancy will then, as part of the regular election process, be filled for the unexpired term.

The City Clerk’s Office has prepared a tentative calendar for the process:
April 24 --Applications available at city hall and on-line
April 27 - May 15 -- Applications accepted at city hall
May 19 -- Application status reported to community
May 20 - June 9 -- Applications reviewed and public interviews conducted
June 9 -- Selection of new councilmember completed
June 16 -- Oath of office administered to new councilmember
