The Greeley Police Department, in conjunction with the Weld County District Attorney’s Office, has been investigating a shooting involving an Evans police officer early on Saturday morning, November 10th. Greeley Police secured a warrant for the arrest of the suspect, Gerardo Magallanes, 09-06-88, for first degree assault on a peace officer and felony menacing.
At 1:02 a.m. Saturday morning, November 10th, Evans police were called to the 4200 block of Mariposa Lane on a family disturbance call. Upon arriving, the officer was confronted by an armed individual, whose actions forced the officer to fire his weapon, striking the suspect. Officers immediately began first aid efforts and the suspect was transported by ambulance to North Colorado Medical Center, where he remains at this time. Magallanes was taken into custody earlier today. He will be transported to the jail once released.
The officer involved remains on administrative leave at this time, as is normal procedure for incidents of this kind.
