CELEBRATE THE END OF SUMMER THIS LABOR DAY

August 28, 2014 (Greeley, CO) – Visit one of Greeley’s recreation facilities this Labor Day, Monday, September 1 for some great family fun before the summer ends! The Greeley Ice Haus, Family FunPlex (Adventure Island Waterpark is closed through Sept 2 for maintenance), and Greeley Recreation Center will all be open for your enjoyment. The Rodarte Community Center and the Greeley Senior Activity Center will be closed in observance of the holiday. Read more...

FAMILY FUNPLEX HOSTS GREELEY KIDS TRIATHLON FOR SECOND YEAR ON AUG 9

August 5, 2014 – (Greeley, CO) – The Family FunPlex, part of the City of Greeley’s Culture, Parks, andRecreation Department, will be hosting the Greeley Kids Triathlon for the second year on Saturday, August 9.The triathlon is open to kids’ age 6-12 years old that will be competing in a swim/bike/run with an emphasis onfitness, safety and fun. Registration is $35 which includes a t-shirt; deadline is Friday, August 8 at 5pm. Therace begins on Saturday at 8am with a mandatory pre-race meeting to be held at 7:45am on race day in thetransition area. Read more...

MAKE A SPLASH AT THE 3RD ANNUAL DISCOVERY BAY’S DOGGIE DAY

August 4, 2014 – (Greeley, CO) – Bring your favorite furry friend to the 3rd Annual Discovery Bay’s Doggie Day on Saturday, August 16 as the City of Greeley celebrates the end of season at their outdoor waterpark. The event will feature booths from presenting sponsors, doggie goodie bags filled with treats and toys; participants will even be able to take photo with their dog as a keepsake. ROCKIES BASEBALL SKILLS CHALLENGE FIRST PLACE FINISHERS HEAD TO STATE

August 4, 2014 – (Greeley, CO) – There were over 160 youth that participated in the Culture, Parks,and Recreation Department’s Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge on June 4 & 5. From there, eight of the firstplace finishers in their age groups went on to compete at Sectionals which was held at 10am Saturday, July 26at Sandstone Ranch in Longmont. The next step is the State Championships on August 23, 10am, at Coca-ColaAll Star Park in Lakewood. All State Finalists will be invited to attend the Colorado Rockies vs. PittsburghPirates game that evening at Coors Field.Greeley was well represented in Longmont Read more...

AGFINITY ALL-STAR GAMES COMING TO TWIN RIVERS BALL PARK AUGUST 9

July 31, 2014 – (Greeley, CO) – The second annual Agfinity All-Star Games organized by the City of Greeley’s Culture, Parks, and Recreation Department will be held Saturday, August 9 at Twin Rivers Ball Park, located at the Family FunPlex – 1501 65th Avenue in Greeley. The event kicks-off with the Futures All-Star Games at 3pm featuring Greeley Recreation T-ball players (age 6-7 year olds) and culminates with the Men’s All-Star Games at 7:45pm. This year’s event will also include some new tributes – the Senior Hall of Fame inductees and a Senior All-Star Game at 7:45pm with participants from our 50+ & 70+ softball leagues.

GOING OUT IS IN AT YOUR COMMUNITY PARKS & RECREATION THIS JULY

June 24, 2014 (Greeley, CO) – If you’re feeling cramped and like you don’t get to spend enough time outside, you’re not the only one. Nearly three in 10 U.S. adults do not spend time outside on a daily basis and of those who do, almost half spend less than 30 minutes in the fresh air according to a new survey released by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs. That’s why this July, the City of Greeley’s Culture, Parks, and Recreation Department (CPRD) and NRPA are challenging everyone to get out and visit their community parks and recreation during national Park and Recreation Month. MAKE AVEN’S VILLAGE BECOME A REALITY

June 13, 2014 (Greeley, CO) – “As summer time comes closer, the excitement of being outdoors looms. The anticipation of swimming pools, ice cream and playing at the park is filling the air” said Aven Mondy’s parents. This expression and the enthusiasm of the Chamber’s family, Pastor of Christ Community Church, was the spark needed for the City of Greeley to forge a partnership with Shane’s Inspiration, a non-profit organization devoted to creating inclusive playgrounds and programs that unite children of all abilities. ROCKIES BASEBALL SKILLS CHALLENGE WINNERS HEAD TO SECTIONALS

June 13, 2014 (Greeley, CO) – Over 160 youth participated in the Culture, Parks, and Recreation Department’s Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge on June 4 & 5 hosted at the Greeley Evans Youth League fields. The event held over two days, brought more than three times the number of kids that participated in the event last year. The Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge allows youngsters to showcase their talents in hitting, running and throwing with scores based on distance, speed and accuracy. Those that won will go on to compete at Sectionals which will be held on Saturday, July 26, 10am, at Sandstone Ranch in Longmont. Read more...

LOCAL SKATERS PLACE AT FRONT RANGE INVITATIONAL

June 10, 2014 (Greeley, CO) – Forty-two skaters competed at the Greeley Ice Haus in the Front Range Invitational Saturday, June 7. Figure skaters from 11 clubs and 16 coaches along the Front Range participated in the event. This local Basic Skills figure skating competition offers skating enthusiasts the opportunity to perform programs that they have been working on all year. The Invitational was judged by United States Figure Skating (USFSA) officials and had doubled in size from last year. Read more...

DISCOVERY BAY WATERPARK OPENS THIS SATURDAY

June 5, 2014 (Greeley, CO) – Discovery Bay Waterpark is now ready to open for the summer season on Saturday, June 7 after a water leak delayed the original opening date of May 22. The leak was successfully repaired and the pool is being filled and heated this week. Discovery Bay Waterpark is a destination for fun the whole family will enjoy. RECENTLY DISCOVERED LEAK HAS DELAYED DISCOVERY BAY’S POOL OPENING DAY

May 22, 2014 (Greeley, CO) – The City of Greeley’s Culture, Parks and Recreation Department is offering a summer of fun at its outdoor and indoor swimming pools. Starting TODAY, Centennial Pool at 2315 Reservoir Road opened its doors. We also opened the Sunrise Splash Park at 4th Ave & 12th street, and the Island Grove Splash Park at 302 North 14th Ave. In addition, the Adventure Island Indoor Waterpark at the Family FunPlex is also open for summer hours. RODARTE BOXERS WIN 4 OUT OF 6 BOUTS AT SMOKER

May 19, 2014 (Greeley, CO) – The Rodarte Boxing Club, part of the City of Greeley’s Youth Enrichment Program, hosted their first Boxing Smoker — The Night of the Champions — Saturday, May 17. Boxing clubs throughout the Front Range and Wyoming participated in the event, which is sanctioned by USA Boxing. Six Rodarte Boxing Club members fought in bouts that evening, four of them winning their fights. Read more...
