The City of Greeley Water and Sewer Department is starting a water main replacement project on August 12.
This project is occurring on 28th Street between 17th Avenue and 23rd Avenue, and on 17th Avenue between 27th Street and 28th Street. Water main replacement work consists of rebuilding the intersections, installing new fire hydrants and crossing the water service connections over to the new water main.
Traffic control will consist of progressive road closures throughout the duration of the project. During the construction, 19th Avenue will become the major route into the 28th Street apartment area. The project is scheduled to start on 17th Avenue and 27th Street then proceed westward down 28th Street.
The water distribution mains in the area have a history of leaks due to ageing cast iron. The project will reduce leaks, lessen future repair costs and improve water service in the area.
This project is just one example of the Water and Sewer Department’s commitment to invest in Greeley’s complex water system. As part of the ongoing commitment to maintain such an expansive water system, the Water and Sewer Department invests hundreds of thousands of dollars each year on maintenance and repair.
