Outstanding Frontline Tourism Worker Award: Colorado Tourism Office
Alison Hamling, Director of Experience for the Downtown Development Authority, has been awarded the Outstanding Frontline Tourism Worker Award for the Denver & the Cities of the Rockies region by the Colorado Tourism Office.

‘Best Up and Coming Housing Market  in Colorado’ by Insurify
Greeley has been named the “Best Up and Coming Market in Colorado” by Insurify.  The ranking is based on increased home values over the past decade, home value forecasts, current year-over-year median sales price trends, 2018 building permits, and share of homeowners.

Weld County Regional Communications: Communications Center of the Year
Weld County Regional Communications has been awarded the Communications Center of the Year award by the Colorado combined chapter of the National Emergency Number Association and the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials.

Facilitator of the Year Award &  USA Servant’s Heart Award
Former Greeley City Manager, Pete Morrell, recently received the Facilitator of the Year Award in the Americas and the USA Servant’s Heart Award from Leadership Management International, Inc. whose mission is to develop leaders and organizations to maximize their full potential, whether it be on a person, family, or organizational level.

University of Northern Colorado: Best Theatre Program in the State
The University of Northern Colorado undergraduate theatre program made the 2019 list of the best theatre programs in Colorado by OnStage Blog. Schools were scored based on Cost/Scholarship, Selectivity, Performance Opportunities, Faculty with Terminal Degrees/Experience, Facilities, Post-Grad career support, and location resources. 

Aims Community College: SkillsUSA State Championship
Congratulations to Michael Kunkel of Greeley for taking the gold medal in collision damage appraisal at the statewide SkillsUSA Challenge.  Michael was one of eight students from Aims Community College to qualify for the competition.  He will now head to the national competition to be held this summer.

Greeley TCBY #3 in the Nation for Sales
Greeley loves its FroYo. During the last week of April, Greeley’s TCBY ranked No. 3 in the nation for sales.

Greeley Tribune: Recognized for Quality Journalism
The Greeley Tribune received five awards at the Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters annual contest for journalism excellence including a first-place finish in Online Breaking News.  The Tribune also nabbed an additional 33 awards at the Colorado Press Association annual awards taking first in several advertising categories, Best environmental story, Best headline writing, Best health enterprise/health feature story, Best feature page design, General excellence, and was the 2018 advertising sweepstakes winner.

2019 Teacher Innovator Institute at National Air and Space Museum
Franklin Middle School science teacher, Machin Norris, is one of 30 teachers nationwide chosen to participate in the 2019 Teacher Innovator Institute at the National Air and Space Museum.

North Colorado Medical Center: National Research Program
Greeley’s North Colorado Medical Center is the first hospital in Colorado to host a national research program led by the National Institutes of Health. Unlike studies focused on particular diseases or populations, the research program called “All of Us” will serve as a national resource to inform thousands of studies.

Mayor’s Water Challenge: Top 5 in the Nation
Greeley residents have done it again!  Greeley finishes 5th in the Wyland National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation with 4,696 pledges resulting in a water savings of 19 million gallons of water and stopping 1,108 pounds of hazardous waste from entering our watersheds.  Greeley has been awarded a top ten finish since the beginning of the Challenge in 2012.


University of Northern Colorado: National Football Foundation & College Football Hall of Fame
Three University of Northern Colorado football players have been named to the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame Hampshire Honor Society.  They include offensive lineman Fisayo Awolaja, linebacker Henry Stelzner and defensive lineman Tank Terrell.  Not to be outdone, fifteen Northern Colorado football student-athletes were honored by the Colorado Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame as 2018 Academic All-Colorado.  Of the 15 honorees, 10 earned first-team honors.


University of Northern Colorado: Big Sky Women’s Golf Individual Player of the Year
Congratulations to UNC Bear Beah Cruz for winning the 2019 Big Sky Women’s Golf Individual Player of the Year and earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team

University of Northern Colorado: Big Sky Conference Champions – 2nd Year in a Row
University of Northern Colorado men’s golf team won the Big Sky Conference Championship title for the second year in a row.  They now advance to the NCAA Regional competition.

University of Northern Colorado: Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the Year
And one more from UNC athletics….wrestler Rico Montoya was named the 2019 Big 12 Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the first award winner in program history.  In his senior year, Roco earned a 4.0 GPA while working towards his master’s degree.

Class 3A State Tennis Title No. 3 Singles
Kudos to University High School’s Liz van der Torre for winning the Class 3A No. 3 singles state tennis title.  This is the first state tennis title in 33 years for University High.

The city of Greeley has been selected by Xcel Energy to be the first community in the nation to paint and wrap artwork on Xcel utility cabinets. You may have noticed the artwork on city-owned traffic utility cabinets.  With this expanded opportunity, we’ll now enjoy event more art around town. Two electrical boxes within the City of Greeley have been chosen for the pilot program.
