Drug Take-Back Day on April 28
It is time to clean out your medicine cabinet. Participate in Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 28. Safely dispose unused and expired medications from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
There are three drop-off locations in Greeley and Evans:
- Greeley Police Headquarters, 2875 10th Street, Greeley
- University Center, 2101 10th Avenue, Greeley
- Sam’s Club parking lot, 3247 23rd Avenue, Evans
Drop off any unwanted prescriptions or over the counter medications. Not accepted are needles or sharps, mercury, oxygen containers, chemotherapy/radioactive substances, pressurized canisters or illegal drugs.
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.
Disposing of medications by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash pose potential safety and health hazards. When drugs are flushed down the toilet, they are introduced into the water system.
This day also has additional opportunities to remove unwanted materials from your home. The site in Evans will also feature paper shredding, provided by Express Shredding Solutions. The Weld County Household Hazardous Waste site (1311 N. 17th Avenue) is open on Saturdays and Tuesdays from 8 to 5 p.m. It is also Spring Clean-up Weekend to get rid of yard waste and other debris.
