We like to recognize all the things that make Greeley a thriving community: student athletic and academic achievements; positive partnerships between businesses and schools; national rankings; and local, state and national awards earned by our non-profit, civic, business and government workers.

These recognitions aren't a pat on the back from locals to locals; rather, they're awards and kudos given from outside the community to those in Greeley who deserve it.

GG_SquareGovernor’s Award for Downtown Excellence
Congratulations to Greeley’s Downtown Development Authority for receiving the 2018 Governor’s Award for Downtown Excellence . Greeley’s first ever Monster Day  in 2017 was recognized with a first place award for the best event, festival or recurring activity.  Monster Day will be held this year on August 18. 

Colorado Congress for Urbanism
The Doubletree by Hilton in Greeley won a Colorado Congress for Urbanism Award via the architectural firm of Johnson Nathan Strohe. Because of its positive impact on the surrounding area, the firm and the project earned the annual Best Built Project Urban Impact award. 

BizWest 2018 Northern Colorado Women of Distinction

Congratulations to the recipients of this year’s BizWest 2018 Northern Colorado Women of Distinction  awards. Greeley honorees included Weld County Commissioner Julie Cozad; Michelle Kempema from the Colorado Model Railroad Museum;  Lisa Taylor from the Immigrant & Refugee Center of Northern Colorado,Tracy Axton from FMS Bank;  and Dr. Lesly Brooks, Sunrise Community Health,

North Colorado Medical Center Receives ‘A’ Grade

North Colorado Medical Center/Banner Health has received an “A” grade by the Leapfrog Group , a national patient-safety rating organization.  Twice a year, Leapfrog gives safety grades to 2,500 acute-care hospitals across the country using 27 measures to gauge each facility’s performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.

Colorado Press Association Hall of Fame
Congratulations to Tribune Editor Emeritus Randy Bangert who was inducted into the Colorado Press Association’s Hall of Fame . Randy most definitely deserves this recognition for his outstanding service to the field of Journalism, the newspaper industry and the communities he served as an employee and a leader at the Greeley Tribune. 

Colorado Press Association Winners
Tribune publisher Bryce Jacobson was awarded the prestigious Newspaper Person of the Year award by the Colorado Press Association .  The Tribune also took home 10 awards in this competition, including first-place for Nichole Mathiason in best use of color in an ad and best restaurant ad; Kristy Passard garnered first place awards for feature page design and info graphics.  Tribune classifieds staff also won a first place award.

Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters 
The Greeley Tribune took home 20 awards at the Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters  annual convention. Competing in Division II against mid-size newspapers, Tribune Photo Editor Josh Polson took home seven awards, including two first-place finishes. Additionally, Polson and Tribune Features Editor Dan England took home first place in story-photo essay and Dan also won first place in the feature story category.  Tribune Deputy Editor Tyler Silvy took home three awards while former Tribune Business Editor Sharon Dunn won two first-place awards. Copy editor/page designer Casey Hutchins won first place in headline writing, and Editor Emeritus Randy Bangert was awarded first place in editorial writing.

American Society of Civil Engineers: Lifetime Achievement Award
Mike Ketterling of KBN Engineers was recently honored with a lifetime achievement award by the American Society of Civil Engineers.  Mike has been involved in numerous local projects and non-profit initiatives that contributed to this well-deserved recognition.

ZachDAotY2018Rocky Mountain Water Quality Analyst Association: Analyst-of-the-Year
The Rocky Mountain Water Quality Analyst Association has named Zach Dahlgren from the Greeley Water Pollution Control Facility as their Analyst-of-the-Year award winner.  Congratulations to Zach. 

Daniels Scholarship Recipients
Six Greeley-Evans School District 6 seniors will receive the prestigious Daniels Scholarship , paid for through the Daniels Fund, a private foundation started by cable television pioneer Bill Daniels.  These scholarships cover four years of tuition and fees, room and board, books and educational expenses. Local recipients for 2018 are: Michelle Lopez at Greeley West High School; Gustavo Gabriel Hernandez, Joshua Martin Torres, Codi RaiAnn Wells, and Mark Lewis Morales at Northridge High School, and Margaret Elizabeth Longcor at Union Colony Preparatory School.  More than 2,200 students applied for Daniels Scholarships this year. 

Dell Foundation Scholars
Two Northridge High School students have been named Dell Scholars .  Paola Espinoza and Gustavo Hernandez, both seniors, will receive a laptop, textbook credits and $20,000 toward their college tuition. This year, only 11 students in Colorado received the scholarship, which is awarded through the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation.

Colorado State Golden Gloves
Congratulations to Heath Middle School’s Josiah Herrera who was crowned champion at the Colorado State Golden Gloves tournament .  Josiah represented the Rodarte Community Center-based Hard Knocks Boxing Club.

All-Mile High League Basketball: Player of the Year & Academic Honors
Congratulations to Dayspring Christian senior Megan Roberts who earned a spot on the All-Mile High League basketball team and was named the league’s Player of the Year.  Union Colony senior Keith Hayden made the boys first team.  Second team honors went to Union Colony’s Mayson Fago and Kacen Shaffer, and Dayspring’s Brooke Shenkenberg and Jimmy Fargo.
