Greeley’s award-winning water continues to meet and exceed all state and federal drinking water standards according to the latest annual water quality report. Published in April, the federally required yearly report summarizes the quality of drinking water treated and distributed by the City of Greeley.
The City routinely monitors drinking water for a long list of potential contaminants. This latest drinking water report includes information from 2018 monitoring. The federal Safe Drinking Water Act establishes the water quality standards for public drinking water systems, including Greeley’s.
To ensure that tap water is safe to drink, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency prescribes regulations that limit the amount of specific contaminants in drinking water provided by public water systems. Tap water must meet more stringent and more frequently monitored health standards than required of bottled water.
Greeley’s water starts as pure Rocky Mountain snowmelt, and the Water Department uses the latest technologies and most effective practices to improve the quality of the drinking water. The Bellvue plant is located at the mouth of the Cache la Poudre River canyon and operates continually throughout the year. The Boyd Lake plant in Loveland is a seasonal, peaking plant that functions during the lawn-watering season. Numerous upgrades to both plants keep up Greeley’s tradition of high-quality drinking water. In 2017, Greeley won the American Water Works Association’s “Best of the Best” Water Taste Test and People’s Choice Award for best tasting water.
Greeley water customers receive a copy of the report brochure in their May water bills. Residents from the City of Evans will also get a copy of the report. The City of Evans does not have its own water treatment facility but has an intergovernmental agreement with Greeley to treat water for Evans.
