A water main replacement project is taking place on Reservoir Road between 28th Street (frontage road) and 23rd Avenue. Water Distribution crews began installing a new 12 inch water main on June 3, 2013. The project consists of rebuilding the intersections, installing new fire hydrants and crossing the water service connections over to the new water main. After the water mains are replaced, the road will receive a paving overlay from the Greeley Public Works Streets Division.
Traffic control will be a major challenge for this project. The goal is to establish secure work zones, safe passage through the construction area and attempt to keep inconvenience to a minimum. Crew supervisors will assist area residents getting in and out of their properties while construction is occurring.
The water distribution mains beneath Reservoir Road have a history of leaks due to ageing steel and cast iron. The project, estimated to cost, $750,000, will reduce leaks, lessen future repair costs and improve water service in the area.
This project is just one example of the Water and Sewer Department’s commitment to invest in Greeley’s complex water system. As part of the ongoing commitment to maintain such an expansive water system, the Water and Sewer Department invests hundreds of thousands of dollars each year on maintenance and repair.
