Apply to Be a Member of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board

Do you want to get involved in your community? Do you want to help shape the quality of life for your city? Lead and provide a voice for your community by getting involved with Boards and Commissions in Greeley. Greeley’s Boards and Commissions program offers 23 different interest groups for residents to engage in and make recommendations for the city. Joining a board or commission is a great way to influence public policy and programming decisions that can affect the entire city. One of these groups is the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board and the city will be accepting applications for seats on the board in January 2021.  This board meets monthly to make recommendations concerning the best use of recreational facilities as well as conducts studies relating to new park, recreation, and trail needs and programming.

Aven's Village ParkBeing a member of the board provides opportunities to meet and work with others who share your interest in making Greeley a great place to live. Scott McPherson, chair of the Parks and Advisory Board, said, “it’s satisfying and rewarding to not only represent your friends and neighbors in the activities of the city but having being input into some very visible aspects of the community.”

In 2021, the board plans to finalize a 5-year Strategic Plan for Natural Areas and Trails.  The board will be reviewing park designs for Centennial Park improvements and the East Greeley Park Project. Another major task is assessing a new cost recovery model for the Culture Parks and Recreation Department (CPRD).

A large portion of the 2020 work done by the board was making adjustments to CPRD operations and staffing associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. While programs were severely impacted, the CPRD also played a critical role in offering and promoting healthy outdoor activities as an alternative to the many activities that were no longer an option. The board accomplished other projects throughout the year, including the adoption of the Family FunPlex master plan. The board also vetted names for new parks in the city, including Eagle View Park and Calabeza Park.
