Construction at Poudre Ponds Recreational Fishery, 924 N 35th Ave., is set to begin in October 2020. As improvements are made, Poudre Ponds will be closed to the public until April 2021.  Poudre River Trail users will see a section of the trail closed until January 2021.

Greeley’s Water and Sewer Department uses Poudre Ponds supply raw water for irrigation in the city and provides a valuable recreational amenity to residents. This project will expand water storage and recreational opportunities at the site.

The city will install a slurry wall around the south gravel pit. The slurry wall will act as a curtain to stop water from leaking in to or out of the pond. To construct the improvements, crews will need to drain the existing north pond to install the slurry wall and piping between the two ponds. Poudre Ponds will close to public access from October through April 2021 during this construction. Prior to the closure, a partnership with Colorado Parks and Wildlife will offer ample fishing opportunities for anglers in efforts to remove sport fish from the pond.

During construction, the city will also install erosion protection between the Poudre River and the north pond to help reduce damage during flooding.

The Poudre River Trail, between 25th and 35th avenues, will close during the construction of erosion protection. Officials anticipate that closure will last through January 2021. The city’s Natural Areas & Trails division and Poudre River Trail Corridor Inc. will provide up-to-date trail closure alerts. Sign up for alerts at poudretrail.org.
