One of the City of Greeley’s core values is stewardship and we are committed to the efficient and effective use of resources. As an organization, we also strive to leave things better than we found them. I want to highlight a few ways the City lives this ethic and the many programs and events we provide to help keep Mother Earth happier.
Greeley loves its trees. Arbor Day is April 22 and Greeley will be designated a "Tree City USA” by the Arbor Day Foundation for the 39th consecutive year. The local Arbor Day Celebration will take place on Saturday, April 20, at 9 a.m. at Lincoln Park. Enjoy this free community event, which includes planting trees in the park, light refreshments, and tree seedlings for attendees.
You can also support Greeley in the Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation by taking a simple pledge to save water, protect water quality and conserve energy, go to MyWaterPledge.com to participate. Did you know that Greeley boasts one of the largest water conservation programs in the State?
We are making an effort on many more fronts. Greeley has programs aimed at stormwater pollution prevention, we are recognized as a bronze level Bicycle Friendly Community, and Greeley Evans Transit’s CNG (compressed natural gas) buses are cleaner than diesel buses. Greeley currently has solar arrays at four City facilities, and over 1,000 acres of managed natural areas, and the City is moving towards paperless record keeping. You can read more about these and other efforts at http://greeleygov.com/services/greeley-green/.
