Candidates Running for Municipal Office
All candidates running for a local office, such as mayor or council member, must take certain steps as part of the process and getting on the ballot.
Becoming a Candidate
All candidates for public office must file a candidate affidavit. A person becomes a candidate at the point they publicly announce an intent to seek public officer and thereafter receive a contribution or make an expenditure in support of their candidacy. The candidate affidavit must be filed with the City Clerk's Office within 10 days of becoming a candidate.
Qualifications for Municipal Candidates
- Citizen of the United States
- At least 21 years of age
- Hold no other elective office
- Have no felony convictions
- Must have been a resident of Greeley for at least one year immediately prior to the election, and if running for a ward-based office, a resident of the ward for at least 90 days
Filing for Office
In order to run for a municipal office, a nomination petition must be circulated and submitted during the filing period.
