2017 Free History Brown Bag Series – Custer and Manifest Destiny
The Greeley Historic Preservation Commission continues the free 2017 History Brown Bag Series held on the 4th Thursday of each month from January through October, Noon to 1:00 p.m. On Thursday, September 28th, Historian Jim Vanek, a retired educator of 40 years and a member of the Custer Battlefield Historical and Museum Association, will give a presentation entitled, “Custer and Manifest Destiny.” Mr. Vanek will take us back to 1876, our "Centennial Year." Generals Sheridan and Sherman, heads of the United States Army, go to President Grant and tell him "we need Custer, give us Custer." They tell Grant that Custer is the only man that can take care of the "hostile Indian situation" out west on the great plains. The presentation will be held in the Community Room of the Greeley History Museum, 714 8th Street. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch. It is free and open to the public, and no reservations are required.
