20th Street Expansion Work Starts August 5
Monday, July 29, construction preparation begins for the 20th Street and 83rd Avenue roundabout as part of the 20th Street expansion project.
Initially, the work focuses on building the new roundabout. Starting August 5, officials expect a two-month closure during the initial construction of the roundabout. Local, emergency and business access will remain open during construction.
The project in its entirety — improving 20th Street between 83rd and 90th avenues — is scheduled to continue through the fall and stop when winter weather makes construction difficult. Work will resume in February when weather conditions improve. Officials anticipate the project to finish in May 2020.
During construction, the expansion work requires lane closures and occasional full closure of 20th Street with detours. However, 20th Street will completely reopen during the winter break in construction.
In 2016, the Keep Greeley Moving Program expanded 20th Street, 74th to 83rd avenues, from a two-lane county road to a four-lane arterial roadway with medians and turn lanes.
The continuation of that project will widen 20th Street west of 83rd Avenue and add curbs, gutters, sidewalks, landscaping, and a drainage system — in addition to the new roundabout. Expanding 20th Street will help ease traffic congestion near growing neighborhoods in west Greeley and increases safety for drivers and residents in the area.
