20th Street Turn Lanes Open House
Greeley officials want to keep improving 20th Street, a major east-west road for Greeley drivers, by adding turn lanes and other traffic features.
A public open house meeting to discuss possible improvements and upgrades for 20th Street between 50th and 59th avenues will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 30, in the Aims Community College Cornerstone Building, room 101, 5401 W. 20th Street.
Between 50th and 59th avenues, the number of businesses, neighborhoods, and local organizations create a lot of traffic on 20th Street. That stretch of this major Greeley artery only provides drivers turn lanes at a few locations, meaning even more congestion, slowdowns for drivers, and opportunities for collisions.
Earlier this year, officials began designing traffic upgrades and improvements for this corridor. Now, Greeley staff want to collect public input, feedback, and ideas about this future project.
Officials are exploring the best time to begin construction of this project within the next two years. Advance notice will be given before construction starts. During construction, two-way traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction. Those lane closures will cause delays. Officials will advise drivers to find alternate routes at that time. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained during construction.
For more information about this project or the open house, or if community members cannot attend the meeting and still want to offer feedback, contact City Engineer Tom Hellen at 970-350-9793 or tom.hellen@greeleygov.com.
