Broadview Playground Refresh Marks Beginning of Several Park Upgrades
Just days before the snow began to fall, the City of Greeley completed the Broadview Park playground refresh on December 28, 2021, located at 28th Avenue and 6th Street. Initially breaking ground last spring, the project included the replacement of aging playground equipment, a new picnic shelter, and new restrooms. Now, visitors to the park can explore newer, innovative, and more accessible play features for those ages 2-12 years old.
City staff selected the unique playground features after receiving input from the surrounding neighborhood. Outreach included:
- an online survey
- door-to-door flyers
- social posts
- and distribution of information to students at Franklin Middle School and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Weld County.
After compiling all of the ideas and suggestions, parks staff worked with Star Playgrounds to design a play space that will foster creativity and play for many years to come.
“We are so excited with how Broadview Park turned out,” said City Parks Planner, Clint Anders. “We absolutely could not have done this without input from the neighborhood. There were kids playing within five minutes of us removing the safety fencing. That was amazing to see.”
The playground refresh and amenity upgrades at Broadview are just the beginning of several park projects that will happen in 2022. Other projects include a playground refresh at Greeley West Park, a brand new playground at Centennial Park, and playground upgrades at Sanborn Park and Anna Gimmestad Memorial Park. Residents are encouraged to be on the lookout for upcoming opportunities on the City’s Facebook page to share their ideas and vision for these parks in the coming months.
