City Chat with Councilmember Suniga on September 28
At-large City Councilmember Stacy Suniga is holding a meeting with residents on Saturday, September 28. Join the councilmember from 11:30 until 12:30 at Continuum Coffee, 6560 W. 29th Street in west Greeley.
The guest for this meeting is Benjamin Snow, the director of the City of Greeley’s Department of Economic Health & Housing. The topic will be the potential of the hemp industry growing in Greeley.
The community is well-positioned to add hemp processing as another business class in the city’s value-added agricultural sector given its location in Weld County – the ag capital of the state. Greeley has already received a lot of interest from players in the hemp industry. The city is embracing this opportunity and has subsequently taken a very proactive approach to nurture this budding industry.
Congress passed the 2018 Farm Bill last December, which included provisions to remove hemp from the Controlled Substances Act definition of marijuana. The law now treats hemp like all other crops and gives oversight to the United States Department of Agriculture.
