City of Greeley Recovers from Overnight Flooding, Rainstorms

GREELEY, Colo. —  Several neighborhoods in East Greeley experienced significant flooding overnight. In response to the severe weather, the City of Greeley has taken immediate action to support affected residents and ensure public safety.

City staff worked tirelessly throughout the night to clean and clear city streets, ensuring the safety and accessibility of our roadways. As of this release, 16th Street from 6th Avenue to US 85 still remains closed in both directions. All other roads affected by last night’s storm are open and clear. Our teams are continuing their clean-up efforts and will continue to do so until impacted roadways can be re-opened.

The city deployed a small outreach team to the most heavily impacted neighborhood (16th Street and 6th Avenue) to meet with residents and ensure they know the city is working to clear standing water and debris.

Facility Closures

Due to the heavy rainfall and resulting flooding, some of the city buildings were also impacted. In order to assess damage and begin remediation, the following buildings will be closed throughout the day today:

  • Active Adult Center, 1010 6th Street

  • City Center North, 1100 11th Street

Emergency Shelter

The city has opened a temporary shelter at the Greeley Family FunPlex facility, 1501 65th Avenue, to accommodate anyone in need of assistance. Currently, four people and two dogs are utilizing the shelter. The facility will remain open for at least the rest of the day, providing a safe haven for those impacted by the storm.
