Construction Closes Section of Poudre River Trail

Poudre-Trail-narrows

Work starts— as soon as Monday, Jan. 31—on repairs to the Poudre River Trail.

Repair work will completely close the Poudre River Trail between 71st Avenue, south of the Signature Bluffs Natural Area, and 83rd Avenue, east of the Poudre Learning Center. City officials anticipate the closure should last about three weeks, Jan. 31 through Feb. 18, to conduct critical safety improvements along this trail section.

During this project, crews will:

  • remove a large dead cottonwood tree
  • eliminate loose rocks on sandstone bluffs
  • repair portions of the trail surface

Officials understand the inconvenience of completely closing a section of the Poudre River Trail causes and thank trail users for their understanding during this project. This work is the first phase of repairs in this section of the Poudre Trail to make it safer and more pleasant for users. City officials anticipate conducting the second phase of work on this trail section this fall.

As crews work on repairing this important section of Greeley trail, officials ask residents and lovers-of-the-outdoors to respect the closure, give the construction plenty of room to operate safely, and honor the fencing and boundaries set up to protect users and construction workers alike. The work area will be hazardous because of falling rocks and large tree branches. Detours are in place to avoid the work area:

  • From the east:
    •  Turn left onto the spur trail
    • Turn right onto Poudre River Rd.
    • Reconnect with the Poudre Trail by turning right at either
      • Riverside Court or
      • N. 81st Ave., or
      • stay on Poudre River Rd. to N. 83rd Ave.
  • From the west:
    • Turn right onto N. 81st Ave., or Riverside Ct.
    • Turn left onto Poudre River Rd.
    • Turn left onto the spur trail
    • Turn right on spur trail to reconnect with the Poudre Trail
