Construction Will Close 20th Street from 35th to 47th Avenues in June

GREELEY, Colo. — Starting June 3, the City of Greeley will partially close 20th Street between 35th and 47th Avenues for approximately two weeks due to underground waterline construction in the area. Connell Resources, the city's contractor, will close the work zone to all westbound traffic. Eastbound traffic will be limited to a single lane.

Points of entry to businesses and residences along the corridor will remain open, but drivers must enter 20th Street from the 47th Avenue intersection for access. There will be no access to 20th Street from 35th Avenue.

The city asks anyone who does not need direct access to the corridor to please detour at either 16th Street or Centerplace Drive.

Pending delays, the City of Greeley expects to reopen this section of 20th Street on June 15.

About the Construction Project

The City of Greeley’s Water and Sewer Department recently built a new pressure-reducing valve vault (PRV) to replace the existing one located in 20th Street. The PRV allows the city to reduce water pressure to a proper range of 50-80 psi as the water is moved across the city’s lower elevations. Without the PRV, water pressure could increase above allowable system pressures which could create mainline, service line, and plumbing breaks or leaks for the city and its customers.

The 20th Street closure will allow work crews to enter the current vault to reconfigure piping and salvage reusable components before it is decommissioned.
