El Guayabo/The Guava Tree Takes Young Audiences on a Musical Journey about Resilience and Friendship at Greeley’s Union Colony Civic Center

El-Guayabo_The-Guava-Tree

In a special musical performance for young people, El Guayabo/The Guava Tree tackles childhood lessons of resilience and friendship using upbeat, bilingual music and colorful characters at the Union Colony Civic Center at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 4.

Based on the childhood of renowned tango pianist Emiliano Messiez, this 50-minute production follows young Messiez in his third-grade year faced with the challenge of moving from a tiny mountain town in Mexico to Colorado.

More than just an entertaining story, El Guayabo/The Guava Tree carries a strong anti-bullying message, teaching kids to act as “upstanders” rather than “bystanders,” and reinforces the power of friendship in overcoming tough situations.

A Young Audience Outreach Tour Performance
El Guayabo/The Guava Tree is the featured performance of Creede Repertory Theater’s 2021 Young Audience Outreach Tour season, a program established to bring musical theater to rural and underserved communities. The program produces original content each season, serving more than 37,000 young people in tours across the Southwest.

Each tour production teaches children important life lessons through energetic music, audience participation, and online study guides that help children reflect on what they learned from the performance. Learn more at creederep.org/education/young-audience-outreach-tour/.
