Experience Inspirational Stories of Artists with Disabilities

Morph-Masters_1

The Union Colony Civic Center, 701 10th Ave., welcomes an inspirational story told by Morph Masters as they perform “How Disability Made Famous Artists Awesome!” on Thursday, September 19, at 6:30 p.m.

Written by PHAMALY’S very own actors, this educational show tells the stories of famous artists throughout history who were masters of their craft and who live(d) and work(ed) with a disability. Artists highlighted include Frida Kahlo, Ludwig van Beethoven, Stevie Wonder and more. The show takes a positive light on how disability can function as a creative asset in people’s lives and empower people of all ages to live and create in unique ways.

“How Disability Made Famous Artists Awesome!” will be presented with the intent of providing an inclusive environment for all abilities. Lights will be partially lit during the performance; there will be an area for assistive calming devices; audience members will be able to move around and leave when needed; there will be a written description of the show notifying audience members of stressful moments during the performance; and other adaptive accommodations will be provided.

The PHAMALY Theatre Company is located in Denver. The company was formed when five disabled actors came together to create this theater company in 1989 and has premiered over 50 shows since the day it opened. This space allows for individuals with disabilities to be given a supportive space to showcase their potential and provide an artistic experience that is unparalleled in Colorado. Founded on the principle of inclusion while developing artistic craft, PHAMALY advocates to effect greater inclusion, participation, and respect for people with disabilities in all facets of society
