Free History Events Offer Community Exploration of Greeley's Past

GREELEY, Colo. — The Greeley Historic Preservation Commission will host two free public events in August. The first will feature a campus walking tour followed by a presentation on local Mexican American history.

UNC West Campus Walking Tour

Jediah Cummins, Director of Strategy and Operations for Student Affairs at the University of Northern Colorado, will lead a free walking tour of UNC's West Campus on August 11 at 5:30 p.m. The tour will share UNC's history since 1956 and show how the West Campus has changed over time.

Participants should meet at the northeast corner of 11th Avenue and 22nd Street at the UNC Campus Commons Plaza, 1051 22nd Street. After 5 p.m., free parking will be available in UNC's C Lot. Additional parking information is available at www.unco.edu/parking.

Mexican American History Project Book Presentation August 14

On Thursday, August 14 at noon, the Greeley History Museum, 714 8th Street, will host a presentation of "Our History. Our Voice. The Mexican American History Project of Greeley."

The book captures the personal stories and community contributions of Greeley's Mexican American residents. Emma Pena-McCleave, project founder and co-coordinator Maria Sanchez, PhD, will present the work, which brings local family stories and community history to life.

Both events are free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
