Greeley Begins Work on Fire Stations 2 and 6

Work starts Monday, Nov. 18, on the construction of a new fire station in west Greeley and the replacement of a key fire station in the center of the city.

Funded by Greeley’s Public Safety Tax, these projects will vastly improve the fire department’s response time in west Greeley and replace an aging fire station that no longer fully supports the growing responsibilities and needs of Greeley emergency responders.

The replacement of Fire Station #2 will start with the demolition of the station's old fire-training tower. Fire Station #2 is located at the intersection of 23rd Avenue and Reservoir Road, next to Centennial Park. Construction crews will demolish and remove the old and unused tower for about three days.

At the same time, crews will begin leveling the ground and preparing the Fire Station #6 site in west Greeley for construction at 20th Street and Promontory Parkway

The Fire Station #2 replacement project will build a new structure in a different location at the same site. Greeley built the original Fire Station #2 in 1958. The new orientation will allow emergency vehicles to exit onto Reservoir Road, instead of the much busier 23rd Avenue. In addition to improved entrances and exits for fire engines and ambulances, the new structure will have the appropriate space for an all-hazards emergency response agency, unlike the current building.

During construction, Fire Station #2 will remain operational and in service. Greeley officials took special care during the design of the replacement project to ensure the existing station would remain usable to help serve Greeley

The new Fire Station #2 is scheduled for completion in September 2020.

A new addition to Greeley’s network, Fire Station #6 will give Greeley a western station to better support the city’s rapid western growth. Fire Station #6 construction is anticipated to be completed in October 2020.

Renewed by voters in 2018, Greeley’s 0.16 percent sales and use Public Safety Tax helps fund the construction, maintenance, and staffing of public safety facilities.
