Greeley Fire Department Seeks Applicants for new Citizen Program
Greeley Fire Department will start accepting applicants for its first 10-week Citizen’s Fire Academy on Monday January 13th.
A brand new program from the Greeley Fire Department, this program will take participants on a 10-week-comprehensive journey into the modern fire service. The academy will give a behind the scenes look at what Greeley’s local fire department can handle and how.
The Greeley Fire Academy begins March 3 and meets Tuesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. at various locations. Most sessions will involve a presentation with opportunity for Academy members to get hands-on experience if they choose. One class will include a Saturday “drill” day at the training area to showcase fire behavior and structure fire response. The academy will take a spring break aligning with District 6.
Registration will open Jan. 13 and close Jan. 31. Applications may be completed online at greeleygov.com/fire or by paper application at Fire Station 1, 1155 10th Ave.
Greeley Fire officials want to reach community members interested in taking a deeper look into the inner workings of the Greeley Fire Department. This new Fire Academy program will showcase the diverse services Greeley’s fire department provides.
Throughout the academy, participants will receive classroom and hands-on experience with:
- Technical rescue
- Advanced life support
- Homeland security and emergency management
- Community medicine and mental health care
- Vehicle extrication
- Wildfire and urban interface
- Incident command
- Fire investigation
- Fire prevention and education
- Hazardous material response
- And of course – firefighting
Greeley’s Citizen’s Fire Academy candidates must be at least 18 years old, complete the application and pass a criminal background check. Participants are asked to commit to all session with three absence resulting is dismissal from the academy.
