Greeley Officials Ask for Input at 12th Street Outfall Open House Meeting

Earlier this year, city staff started designing a new storm drainage facility in the Sunrise neighborhood – along the Cache la Poudre River near 10th Street and U.S. 85.

City officials invite the community to attend a special open house from 6-8 p.m., July 28, at Charlie and Laura Archibeque Park, 325 12th St., to help guide this project’s design.

This important and exciting project will become the first phase of a larger plan over the next decade to create an underground storm drain outfall system – where extra water in the streets can safely go to the river. Right now, this project is in the preliminary stage – officials do not plan to start construction until late 2022. Future phases could extend the storm drain through downtown by way of 12th Street.

In order to make significant quality-of-life and safety improvements and help reduce flooding and property damage in the city’s downtown and neighboring areas, this project must come first. The outfall project could include designing a water quality pond, public art, river restoration, and a potential new segment of the Poudre Trail.

A few months ago, city staff started working with a design company to analyze different options and develop a possible vision for the project. As a part of that work, city staff need feedback from residents and property owners in the neighborhood to help shape the final project.
