July Historic Preservation Events: Free Pre-Chautauqua History Presentation and Walking Tours
The Greeley Historic Preservation Commission invites the community to learn more about local history and famous figures during free summer events all month long.
Free Walking Tours
Lace up some comfortable shoes for two free walking tours, both led by Greeley’s historic preservation team.
- On July 17 at 5:30 p.m. tour the north Cranford neighborhood. The tour will begin at the southwest corner of 11th Avenue and 14th Street. Attendees will learn about interesting properties in the area and the people who lived there.
- On July 24 at 6 p.m., join a pre-Chautauqua tour in the Sunrise neighborhood focusing on Germans from Russia and this culturally significant area. The tour will begin at the northwest corner of Charlie & Laura Archibeque Park at 11th Street and 4th Avenue.
Reservations are not required for the walking tours. The tours will take place rain or shine but will be rescheduled in the event of a severe weather event.
Pre-High Plains Chautauqua Event
The Young Chautauquans are students in 5th and 7th grades who prepared monologues that bring stories of inspiring historical figures to life. Learn about familiar figures from a new perspective. The event is on Thursday, July 27, at noon at the Greeley History Museum (714 8th Street).
- Sarah Passineau will present female aviator Amelia Earhart
- Elliana Luce will present world famous female chef Julia Child
- Jackson A. Chadwick will present German mathematician Georg Cantor
- Lily Paul will present female bicyclist Annie Londonderry
High Plains Chautauqua
High Plains Chautauqua is an annual event in Greeley celebrating theatre, history, and the humanities. Audiences will enjoy performances and engage in dialogue with memorable historical figures.
