The Greeley Ice Haus on Sunday, May 5 will be launching their first Sled Hockey Drop-in class from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. If you’re interested in an all-inclusive opportunity to try sled hockey this is the place to be! John Reid, a Level 1 certified USA Hockey Coach also with the Warrior Avs – a competitive sled hockey team, will be teaching the class. The Drop-in Sled Hockey program will run every Sunday at the same time; it’s intended to teach the basics of sled hockey. The Greeley Ice Haus will provide all equipment; fee for the weekly drop-in class is $9.50.

“This program is something we’ve been working on developing for a while,” said Mark Mann, Ice Haus Manager. “Corbin Fitzgibbons, the Ice Haus Coordinator, completed the Disabled Hockey curriculum in the fall offered by USA Hockey with 1.5 hours of on-ice training and 3 hours of classroom training at the Pepsi Center in Denver.” Some of the modules completed included developing a disabled hockey program, concussion and athlete safety, efficient and effective practices, coaching disabled athletes, deaf/hard of hearing hockey, sleep and its effectiveness on performance, just to name a few. “He’s been really excited to get this program off the ground and we saw some positive community interest during our Try Sled Hockey event back in March.”

Participants will want to come dressed in warm athletic gear on Sunday for the Sled Hockey Drop-in class. “This is a great opportunity for individuals to try something new, and get out on the ice without needing to know how to skate,” said Corbin Fitzgibbons. “Our goal is to provide on-ice activities for all who are interested in trying it. Sled Hockey is a great introduction to the sport!”
