Melissa Etheridge’s “The Medicine Show” is Here!

Melissa-Etheridge

The Union Colony Civic Center, 701 10th Ave., presents iconic Grammy and Oscar-winning singer-songwriter and activist, Melissa Etheridge on Thursday, November 7 at 7 p.m.

Melissa Etheridge released a new album last April 12 titled “The Medicine Show,” via Concord Records. Reunited with celebrated producer John Shanks, Melissa sounds as rousing as ever, bringing a new level of artistry to her 15th studio recording. Known for her passionate and dynamic live performances, she will embark on a U.S. tour in support of the new album, which kicked off on March 29 in Florida.

Etheridge comments, “calling the album ‘The Medicine Show’ puts straight up, front and center that this is about health, wellness, cannabis, this new thought, new paradigm, however, you want to talk about it, however, you want to understand it. It influences every song on the album. We’re not afraid of this anymore. We’ve come a long way.” Songs from her new album include “Wild and Lonely,” “Shaking,” “This Human Chain,” and many more.

As one of rock music’s female icons, her music deals with universal themes ranging from reckoning to healing. Etheridge’s popularity stemmed from memorable songs such as “Bring Me Some Water,” “No Souvenirs,” and “Ain’t It Heavy” that helped earn her first Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal. She has also won accolades for her Broadway performance as St. Jimmy in Green Day’s rock opera “American Idiot.” Etheridge’s journey as a musician has led her to sales of over 25 million albums, five platinum and three multi-platinum records, 15 Grammy award nominations. With two wins, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and an Academy Award for “I Need to Wake Up” from the climate change documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.”  Her 2016 release, Memphis Rock & Soul, debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Blues Chart. Melissa has selflessly dedicated herself as an activist for human rights, LGBTQ issues, breast cancer awareness, and alternative medical approaches.
