The Mummenschanz ensemble takes audiences on a journey filled with imagination and poetry in their “50 Years,” anniversary production at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at Greeley’s Union Colony Civic Center, 701 10th Ave.
“50 Years” is a celebration of the troupe’s five decades of work, featuring their most beloved sketches and popular characters, like the Clay Masks, Toilet Paper Faces, Pipe Creature, and air-filled Giants. Each performance is a fantastic journey that showcases the power and humor found in movement.
The Musicians of Silence
Since its founding in Paris in 1972, the Mummenschanz company enchanted audiences worldwide with its poetic, non-verbal performances. From small, masked plays in Switzerland to Broadway performances, the group grew and transformed over the years, with Floriana Frassetto, current artistic director, the sole active founding member.
The name is a combination of “mummen,” meaning “to conceal” or “to mask” (similar to the English “mummer”), and “schanz,” a play on “chance.”
