Once Upon a Time, there was a Little Ogre named Shrek…

The Union Colony Civic Center, 701 10th Ave., proudly welcomes the Stampede Troupe and the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra (GPO) as they present “Shrek the Musical” on Friday, February 7-8 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, February 9 at 2 p.m.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, “Shrek the Musical” is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all-new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Presented by the GPO in partnership with the Stampede Troupe and the Union Colony Civic Center, “Shrek the Musical” brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there is more to the story than meets the ears.

Jim DeMersseman, Harold Hamler, and Kent Smith purchased the Stampede Troupe together in 1974. The Stampede Troupe is Greeley’s oldest theater production company and continues to be a community staple. Over 1,000 community artists have participated in more than 100 theatrical productions. The Stampede Troupe has three missions: to produce a variety of high quality live theatre for the community, to provide organized, efficient and artists performance opportunities for actors and other creative artists, and to offer theatre oriented educational experiences for youth.

The GPO is the oldest continually operated professional orchestra west of the Mississippi River and one of a few orchestras in the United States to reach the elite status for operating for over a century. Now in its 109th concert season, the GPO continues its quest for beautiful music, a hallmark of those who settled our area.

Please be advised, this production contains strobe lighting effects and theatrical fog/haze. Patrons with concerns may contact the ticket office or front of house staff.
