Poudre River Trail Section Closes for Repairs
A section of Poudre River Trail will close for about three weeks for repairs starting Wednesday, April 15.
The trail will close from 95th Avenue – 1 mile west of the Poudre Learning Center – to the Kodak Bridge – located about 3 miles east of the Kodak trailhead.
Construction work will repair trail and riverbank damage caused by past floods.
Last year, staff placed sandbags around this area to protect it from additional flood damage until more permanent repairs could be completed. However, breakdown of some of the bags necessitates emergency repairs before this spring’s runoff season.
City officials can utilize the team that recently completed trail repairs north of Rover Run Dog Park to quickly stabilize the eroded river bank for this section west of 95th Avenue before this season’s snowmelt and high river flows.
During construction, officials encourage users to try using the Sheep Draw Trail instead – which can be accessed from the recently expanded parking lot at McCloskey Natural Area on 71st Avenue or from the Family FunPlex parking lot at 1501 65th Avenue.
Officials remind community members when using city trails to abide by the rules of the state’s Stay at Home Order and follow Centers-for-Disease-Control-recommended precautions including physical distancing and cloth masks. Greeley’s trail system provides the community opportunities to explore the outdoors and enjoy the benefits of fresh air, exercise, and a connection to nature.
