Rodarte Boxing Club Presents Annual Boxing Exhibition on September 16
The Rodarte Community Center’s Boxing Club hosts its annual boxing exhibition, Día del Campeón, on Saturday, September 16, sponsored by the Danny Juarez Foundation.
Enjoy several matches between area boxers competing for a belt. Come cheer on local athletes as they square off at the event. Weigh-ins begin at 8 a.m., and the show starts at 2 p.m. Admission is $15 per person, free for children 8 years and under.
Participating Rodarte Boxers
Seven boxers will compete during the exhibition at the home club under the Rodarte coaching staff: Jacob Sanchez, Enrique Garcia, and Eduardo Contreras. The boxers are:
- Owen Montoya, age 9
- Anthony Plascencia, age 12
- Mariah Conteras Maciel, age 12
- John Poland, age 13
- Yoenny Diaz Menjivar, age 13
- Jovanny Plascencia, age 14
- Emanuel Tapia, age 16
About the Coaches
Jacob Sanchez, the Rodarte Boxing Club head coach, has over 23 years of experience in the boxing profession. He began his boxing career at age 5 and became a participant in the Rodarte Boxing Program when he was 12. In 2000, Sanchez started as the assistant coach with Rodarte after former coach Santos Casares retired. He then explored other coaching opportunities before returning to the club at Rodarte three years ago.
The Rodarte Boxing Club assistant coach, Enrique Garcia, also boxed as a participant in the program. He has accompanied Sanchez at the helm for the last three years, coaching youth and adults interested in the sport, accompanied by Eduardo Contreras as an assistant during the previous two years.
The Rodarte Community Center Boxing Program offers recreational and competitive instruction. Seventeen recreational boxers, four competitive fighters, and one adult are actively involved in the program. For details, call 970-350-9430 or visit RodarteCC.com.
