Last year 544 Greeley residents took action to help save almost 1.5 million gallons of water last year by switching to high-efficiency showerheads, and they did it for free.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense program estimates a single high-efficiency showerhead saves 2,700 gallons of water a year — and that means water bill savings too. Since 2013, Greeley’s Water Conservation program let Greeley residents exchange their old showerheads for new high-efficiency showerhead.  In 2018, Greeley residents exchanged 544 showerheads through the program.

The program continues this year with the first showerhead exchange of 2019 at the Greeley Tribune Home and Garden Show during the first weekend of March. Staff from the Water Conservation Program will work all three days in the Island Grove Exhibition Building to exchange old showerheads for new models.

Staff will be available these hours and day:

Friday, March 1 - noon to 5 p.m.

Saturday, March 2 - 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sunday, March 3 – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

City of Greeley water customers can bring old showerheads and get a new high-efficiency model in exchange at no cost. Residents must bring a copy of their Greeley Water bill with their water account number in order to exchange  their showerheads. There are many types of showerheads available, including handheld models. Also, customers can choose a showerhead in either white or chrome to match their bathroom fixtures.

• The new showerheads are EPA WaterSense labeled.  Products that have earned the WaterSense label have been independently certified to use at least 20 percent less water and perform as well or better than standard models.
• Most people save about a gallon of water per minute or more with the new showerheads.
• Inefficient showerheads not only waste water, but they also consume energy to heat that water. Every time you take a shower with an efficient showerhead, you save energy. It is equal to the amount of electricity it needs to light a 60-watt light bulb for 8 hours.
• The old showerheads are recycled for metal or plastic materials.
