Last year, Greeley residents took action to help save almost 2.7 million gallons of water by switching 994 old showerheads to high-efficiency ones, and they did it for free.
The Environmental Protection Agency’s Water Sense program estimates a single high-efficiency showerhead saves 2,700 gallons of water a year — and that means water bill savings too. Since 2013, Greeley’s Water Conservation program let Greeley residents exchange their old showerheads for new high-efficiency showerheads.
The program continues this year with the first showerhead exchange of 2020 at the Greeley Tribune Home and Garden Show during the first weekend of March. Staff from the Water Conservation Program will work all three days in the Island Grove Exhibition Building, 501 N. 14th Ave. to exchange old showerheads for new models.

City of Greeley water customers can exchange their old showerheads for a new high-efficiency model at no cost. Residents must bring a copy of their Greeley Water bill with their water account number. If you manage or own a large multifamily complex or multiple rental units, please call 970-350-9874 to make arrangements for bulk orders.
There are several types of showerheads available, including a handheld model. Also, customers can choose a showerhead in either white or chrome to match their bathroom fixtures.
- The new showerheads are EPA WaterSense labeled. Products that have earned the WaterSense label are independently certified to use at least 20 percent less water and perform as well or better than standard models.
- Most people save about a gallon of water per minute or more with the new showerheads.
- Inefficient showerheads not only waste water, but they also consume energy to heat that water. Every time you take a shower with an efficient showerhead, you save energy. It is equal to the amount of electricity needed to light a 60-watt light bulb for 8 hours.

Another showerhead exchange is happening at the Winter Farmers' Market on April 16. It scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon at Zoe’s Café & Events, 715 10th St.
