As Greeley enters the spring runoff season, flooding along sections of the Poudre River Trail may take place during the next few weeks.

This time of year, the warm weather and runoff from the mountain snowmelt causes rising water levels in the river that can cause flooding.

Officials urge trail users to stay alert and look out for standing or flowing water on or adjacent to the trail. Trail closures may occur if city staff determine trail conditions, including flooding or flooding risk, present a public safety concern.

Although trail users might want to go through or off-trail to avoid water, users should stay on the paved surface to avoid hidden risks and prevent damage to off-trail areas. If users can’t see the trail due to flooding or water is flowing across the trail, they should turn around and not attempt to cross the flooded section.
