The City of Greeley and Employment Services of Weld County (ESWC) will host a Young Adult Job Fair from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, at the Island Grove Regional Park Event Center.
This annual event is free to ages 14-24 and draws in more than 200 attendees with roughly 40 businesses. Although most companies require a minimum age of 16, some employers can hire the younger range of 14 to 18, with certain working hour limitations.
“Young people get a true picture of the competitive job market and the impact that little details — having a strong resume and dressing professionally — can make,” said Leslie Galindo, a youth employment and training navigator for Weld County’s Department of Human Services.
“The Young Adult Job Fair may be the start of a career for many. Seeing attendees’ interest increase as they meet with different employers is always inspiring. Most will be interviewed that day or called in later for follow-up interviews.”
How to Prepare for the Job Fair
For the best experience, Galindo advises those attending to bring several copies of their resumé. If they don’t have a resumé, team members will be there to help build an effective one. High Plains Library District will bring in computers and virtual reality devices for attendees. Leanne’s Closet will provide business attire to those who need it, and attendees can receive a professional headshot if they choose.
A Look at Opportunities
The City of Greeley’s Summer Teen Employment Program (S.T.E.P), an initiative aimed at giving real-world experience to youth ages 14-15, will also be in attendance with registration and program information. They are looking to fill seasonal positions (20 hours a week, for 10 weeks) working with the Rodarte Community Center and Parks division.
Various employers will also represent construction, landscaping, health care, government, law enforcement, hospitality, entertainment, and information technology. Employers will recruit for part-time and seasonal positions.
