Water Budgets and New Lawn Installation

GWB_sod_A_all@2xIt is essential that you apply for a variance whenever you plant sod or seed in a new or existing lawn that needs revived. Please e-mail conserve@greeleygov.com, if you have any questions.

For those single-family-residential customers on the water budget, this will set you on a uniform water rate for the establishment of the new grass. If procedures are not followed, you’ll go over budget and pay more for water that month.
Follow the 4 steps below to properly apply for a variance.

  1. Measure your yard to determine how much compost and seed/sod you need. For every 1,000 square feet of lawn, you will need four cubic yards of compost. This will be a dump truck from a landscape yard or 1 or more trips with a pickup truck. Spread the compost evenly over the new lawn area.
  2. Rototill the compost in to break up the compacted soil. Keep a receipt of rototiller rental or an itemized landscaper invoice. Take a photo of rototilling with the house in the background, if you do not have a receipt. This is applicable if you have your own rototiller or borrowed one from a friend.
  3. Lay the sod in a brick like pattern over the tilled ground. When planting seed, spread seed evenly across the soil.
  4. Apply for a variance at the Water Conservation office at 1100 10th Street on the 3rd floor. Fill out an application. You’ll need compost receipts, seed or sod receipts, rototiller rental receipt or rototilling photo. There is no application fee. An online form is currently being developed.
