Since August of 2016, rain barrels have been legal in Colorado. Rain Barrels were not permitted in Colorado in the past, because many felt that it would conflict with Colorado Water Law and may infringe on downstream water users' rights.
Here are a few things to keep in mind, when developing your own rain barrel system.
- Limits the homeowner to 2 barrels
- Combined capacity can NOT exceed 110 gallons
- Collected water must be used outside on the homeowner's property
