East Greeley Natural Area has a New Name!

Campo Esperanza (Hope Field) was announced as the new name for the natural area located just east of Discovery Bay Waterpark, at 715 E. 24th Street. Greeley City Council approved the name at their March 1 meeting.

Naming suggestions were collected from residents through an online survey from October through December 2021. Over 70 suggestions were submitted. The Culture, Parks and Recreation Department Parks and Recreation (P&R) Board reviewed the names during their February 2022 meeting. Two sections were chosen from the names that were submitted:

  • Linda Parra: “Campo Bella”
  • Laura Immenschuh: “Esperanza View”

The P&R board liked both suggestions, so they combined the names to Campo Esperanza. Both community members received a $100 gift card for submitting suggestions. A permanent sign with the new natural area name will be installed later this spring.

Greeley residents were able to experience nature play at both Balsam Sports Complex and the new Natural Area. The neighborhood enjoyed live music, games provided by Greeley Recreation's Play on the Way mobile recreation program, great food, and fun activities.

The Natural Areas & Trails staff conducted a survey to help choose a name for the new Natural Area. The board will be reviewing all the names submitted at their first meeting to be held in 2022 and will be making a decision soon. More information to come, stay tuned!

City of Greeley staff have been busy creating this new Natural Area & Trail in East Greeley.
They've been are adding walking paths and a nature play area. Things really started to progress the month of July. See some of the fun pieces being installed this summer, and be sure to check it out when you're in the neighborhood!

Phase 1 of the East Greeley Natural Area, located east of Discovery Bay Waterpark, is now open to the public.

The Culture, Parks and Recreation Department has developed a design incorporating input received by area residents and organizations. Residents will have the ability to share additional input during the official naming process in 2022.

The East Greeley Natural Area includes:

  • Three entrance points to a walking path surrounding natural areas
  • Climbing features with an obstacle course layout
  • Nature areas encouraging unstructured play activities
  • Art components designed into the landscape throughout the area

This site will offer residents and visitors an opportunity to engage with the outdoors in unique and fun ways. Natural grasses and wildlife habitats, which may take years to fully develop, throughout the natural area will provide youth and adults an opportunity to connect with nature and play outdoors for many years to come.
